September 27th 2010:
Currumbin Palm Beach Sub Branch and the Gold Coast District has allocated funds to the Currumbin Community Farm School to enable them to replace a rusted flagpole, to add a shade sail to an outdoor area and to build an outdoor kitchen that will assist with teaching intellectually disabled children practical day to day skills.
December 11th 2010
In the pouring rain a hardy band of 11 walkers and one mawcaw, took off from Coolangatta and walked the 30kms to the Broadbeach Parklands at Southport to raise funds for 13 year old Abbey O'Neill who suffers from Cerebral Palsey and Spastic Quadriplegia. Abbey has outgrown her wheelchair and needs a new one that will require modifications such as arm restraints and a retractable arm. This retractable arm will enable Abbey to move her communication device, a Dynabox, infront of her face which she then operates with her chin. Abbey is also being taught to use an IPAD by her teacher and is very excited by the avenues this will open to her.
The entire fundraising event was organised by Abbey' s14 year old friend, Ashleigh Fannin who met Abbey at Girl Guides and was touched by Abbey' s situation. A remarkable achievement for one so young.
President of North Gold Coast RSL Sub Branch , Mr Ken Goldenbecame aware of Abbey' s situation and submitted a proposal for funding to the value of $5,000 to the Gold Coast District Br RSL which was subsequently approved. The Cheque was presented with great pleasure, to Mr & Mrs Phil and Helen O'Neill by District President Mr Peter Franklin OAM at the conclusion of the walk.
October 27th 2010:
Currumbin RSL Treasurer Mr Ron Martin and VP Mr Bill Thompson presented Ms Robyn Dredge from the Special Olympics Management Committee with a cheque to enable Kai Armstrong's attendance at the Special Olympics World Summer Games being held in Greece in June 2011. Kai is a runner and will be competing in the 100mm, 200mm and shot put. At the recent National Games held in Adelaide, Kai won Gold in the 100m, silver in the 200m and silver in the shot put which cemented his selection in the team to go to Greece. The Special Olympics are held for people who have an intellectual disability.
September 11th 2010:
Twin Towns Sub Branch and Gold Coast District have provided funding to the RSL QLD Bowls Association for the purchase of shirts that will be worn by all members attending their National bowling carnivals from September 2010 to January 2011.
The RSL QLD Bowls Assn was formed as a club in 1968 and became an association of 5 zones in 2005. The sport of bowls has proven to be a great source of membership for the RSL. Members have served in all areas of the ADF and include WWII, Korean, Vietnam veterans and National Servicemen

Surfers Paradise :Sub Branch and the Gold Coast District has allocated funds to support the QLD Police Initiative "Mapping the Strategic Development of Youth" that will provide support, direction and purpose to youth experiencing difficulties with schooling with a view to developing positive attitudes. This is done in conjunction with southern Gold Coast PCYCs.
September 28th 2010:
Twin Towns Sub Branch and the Gold Coast District has provided funds to the Naval Association of QLD (Twin Towns Sub Branch) to purchase a new smaller banner for use on commemorative occasions. The membership is aging and a smaller banner was required to enable them to carry it more comfortably and with dignity.
August 20th 2010:
District President Mr Peter Franklin presented a cheque to Year 12 Students of Windaroo Valley State High School that will enable them to study first hand, the defence of Australia in Darwin during WWII.
August 19th 2010:
District Secretary, Ms Betty Robinson, presented Ms Suzanne Kelly of the Currumbin Veteran Support Centre with a cheque to assist with the "Let' Go - Seniors Alive" initiative. The event was informative and entertaining and was aimed at reducing the social isolation of seniors in the Currumbin/Palm Beach area.
August 15th 2010:
Six Camp Stretchers were presented to SES members Ms Kim Malone and Mr Bill Kruger. as thanks for their assistance and support of the Runaway Bay RSL Sub Branch. SES vehicles are allocated one stretcher per vehicle however . up to 6 personnel may be require at any one time to attend to emergencies that might extend over long periods.
August 15th 2010:
Runaway Bay Sub Branch President , Mr Barry Somers (L) looks on as District President Mr Peter Franklin (R) presents Ms Lisa Morgan of the Runaway Bay Junior Ruby League Football Club with a cheque that will provide assistance to junior footballers to attend representative teams. The players identified come from families experiencing financial difficulties.
August 4th 2010:
Gold Coast District President, Mr Peter Franklin OAM, assisted by Tamborine Mountain Sub Branch President, Mr John Brookes and Treasurer Mr Jim Stathis recently presented a cheque from the Gold Coast District Welfare and Community Fund to Police Constable Pete Blundell and Senior Constable Scott Gutured that will enable all Year 12 students in the North Tamborine Police Division to complete a 2 day defensive driving training program at Mt Cotton Driver Training Centre during the last term of their year 12 year.
May 2010:
The President of the Rotary Club of Beenleigh Mrs Di Chambers was presented with a BBQ Trailer on May 2nd 2010 by Sub Branch President Mr Tom Childs OAM. The trailer will be used to raise funds for community projects and will be available for use by other community groups on request.
District President (R) Selwyn Hannant, presents a cheque to Mr David Cameron, President, Teenage Adventure Camps-Queensland (TAC- Q).
TAC-Q conducts one annual camp each year for disabled and unwell children under the age of 12 and their carers, to encourage social interaction and to provide respite for full time carers.
University students volunteer their time for the June/July camp to provide 24/7 attention and assistance to the child in their care. Two mini camps are also conducted to enable families to attend and enjoy the facilities at the Rocks Resort, Currumbin. The children play golf, go for Harley rides, helicopter rides and generally do things outside their comfort zone. The camps are funded through donations and the support of generous sponsors including Currumbin RSL and Tweed Endeavour Cruises.
